Treasure and Dakrness Chapter 2

Chapter 2

The whole forest scenery vanished. The two were in Tiger’s room, the sun was shining and birds were chirping from the window sill. The ceiling fan in the room was on medium and made Winter shiver. The cat got underneath Tiger’s blanket and lay down. As for Tiger, she found herself faced down on her pillow and then she yawned as she sat up. The strange dream was odd, but also she felt as if she was there. Bored, she decided to get out of bed and go downstairs for something to eat. It had been at least a half day since she had last eaten and it was about lunch time so she thought what could go wrong.

The door opened and Tiger looked at Winter, who was asleep in the blankets. She gave a small smile and quietly shut the door behind her. Tiger headed for the stairs and grabbed the rail going down. At the bottom of the steps, her little sister Jamie was happily skipping about the front door. Something bothered her, but she tried to ignore it and was focused on getting to the refrigerator.

“Hi Tina.” Jamie said happily. The young girl smiled as she saw her older sister walking down the stairs. It must have seemed like forever since she had last seen her sister, even though it was only for an hour.

Tiger snorted as she looked at her sister. “What do you want, Jamie? I am busy…” She turned to the opening that was the kitchen. “Do you know if mom ever baked anything?’ Tiger asked.

Jamie shook her head and pointed to the door. “Mom went out to the store.” The girl looked at the bowl of fruit that was on the table next to a pretty window. “I think that I may have left you an apple in the fruit bowl.” Jamie laughed as she ran into the narrow hallway. At the end, she turned around and looked at Tiger. “Oh and I think Kendall had come but earlier. He was asking for you, but I think he is outside.” She sighed and left.

“Ok…” Tiger yelled. She usually gets annoyed by Jamie and then walked into the kitchen. The fruit bowl managed to contain both one banana and an apple. Tiger grabbed the apple and took a big bite and walked to the table. Outside, Kendall was sitting on the bench with his DSi in his hands. She just rolled her eyes and walked out of the kitchen to the front door. A few seconds later, Tiger was down the steps and looked at Rendell. “So what did you come for?” She said.

Kendall looked up from his game, he was playing Mario Kart. He slammed the game down and gave a slight smile. “Hey Tiger. Sorry I have been ignoring you in school for the week…” He sighed, rubbing his hand around his neck.

Tiger glanced, angry that she had to remember that her friend had ignored her in school for the whole week. He wouldn’t talk to her during lunch, had been skipping past her in the hallways and as for walking home from school, he would take another route to leave her. A cold flame burned in her eyes. “Ya, what was that for? I had things to tell you…” Tiger grumbled. She folded her arms.

“I had a few things to do.” Kendall stood up and had a serious look on his face now. “Tiger, do you want somewhere to get away from your home for a while?” he asked. He added, “I know that you had spent most of your time here and thought you could use some fresh air.” He smiled.

Something bothered Tiger, knowing that she couldn’t leave her sister alone. “I can’t go. My mom isn’t back and I need to watch my little sister,” She blushed. “Sorry.”

Kendall was ok with that and thought of somewhere else to go for the time. There were a few personal things he had to talk to her about and looked up at her bedroom window. There was a strange thing looking out the window, it was white and seemed to have something on his eyes. Kendall squintes his eyes as he looked at the window. “Tiger, what is in your room…” He realized it was a cat bat.

Tiger gasped and pulled Kendall underneath the shady bench. The two sat down and she took a long breath. “Rendell, it is just my…” she dared not do say it. “Cat in the window… I kinda put plastic bat wings on it to make it look as if it can fly.” She blushed in embarrassment.

“Well there are a few things that I need to tell you. Why don’t we go up to your room and we can talk about it.” A small growl came as he spoke. “I would like to see what this cat is…” He faked smiled. Something seemed to bother him. He could remember his memory of his leader wanting to recruit Tiger and help them with something big.

Tiger nodded.

Inside the room, there was no sign of Winter and she sighed in relief. If anything had happened to her new pet, she would feel devastated and puzzled. There must have been nothing like the cat she had met and seemed to like Winter in a kind way. Questions still filled her mind about her uncle and wondered of the cat knew anything about it. Tiger sat on her bed and felt a small nudge, guessing that the cat bat had hid underneath her bed.

Kendall looked around the room and was puzzled. “I swore that I saw something there…” He blinked and shook his head. “Tiger, I came to talk to you about something.” He sat on the dresser that was close to the door. “There is a place I work for. It is called the NDA…” He was stopped by Tiger’s shock.

Tiger shook her head and looked at Kendall. “I have heard of that organization…” She whispered.

The boy was a bit surprised, but shrugged and glanced at Tiger with a darkening look. He crossed his arms and leaned against the back of the wall. “Tiger, it is not all bad. They can help change the world to make it better…” he looked down at his feet. “I just want you to join because I don’t want to see you being a minion. You are my best friend and I really care for you.” His face began to turn red. “I really like you…”

Her face turned red and a tear ran down her face. Tiger had liked him too and was afraid to tell him that, but she knew that she couldn’t join the NDA. She wanted to be like her uncle and explore many different places. The stories that Claus had told her were amazing and made her dream of herself in his footsteps. Now that she was starting with finding out what her uncle had sent to her, she could finally start getting somewhere and had to think of what to do.

“Tiger please join.” Kendall said sadly. His eyes suddenly went from sadness to happiness. He pointed to the Night stone and smiled brightly. “Tiger, you have powers unlike anyone. If you join, you can learn to use them…” Kendall explained.

“But…” Tiger shook her head and felt a small nudge from underneath the bed and then looked at her friend. “I don’t want to control the world. This isn’t like you…” She walked to the door and opened it, pointing downstairs to the front door. “I believe that you should leave.” She said. Her heart ached to see her friend out like that, but knew it was the right thing to do. “I can always talk to you in school.” She smiled, trying to sound better.

Kendall looked at Tiger, upset and angry at himself. “Tiger, why don’t you come in and see if you like it…” He walked out the door. “And if you don’t like it, I can just take you out and we can remain friends…” the boy walked to the front door. “How about tomorrow.”

Tiger nodded and blinked. “Um… sure…” She watched as her friend walked out of the front door and then shut her bedroom door. Her face was back to pale color.

Winter growled and looked at Tiger, her tail lashing side by side. The cat flapped her wings and flew in front of Tiger. “Are you crazy? He is luring you into a trap so that his master can make you join…” She grumbled as she went back t the bed. “I wouldn’t go if I was you.” Winter laid her head on her paws. “You uncle was the greatest explorer STWC ever had and you contain those characteristics. If they get ahold of you, the world can end as you know it…” She sighed.

“I know Kendall and he is not like that…” Tiger looked at Winter. “But what can go wrong?” She smiled as she stroked the cat bat.
